The crime was one of many related to drug violence, and by 1984 the year "Miami Vice" premiered on television, FBI statistics reported 1,200 drug-related murders, an "improvement" to the 1,500 muders in 1981. The show, now a movie which premieres 28 July despite its violent themes helped revive Miami as a tourist destiny. The television police series showed Miami as a violent city, but with glamour, wealth, enchantment, mystery and beauty.
